DO YOU REMEMBER…. ROBERT CAMPBELL?

Bob Campbell Judging the 1985 Akita National Specialty in Tampa, FLDo you remember Bob Campbell’s kennel name?  No student of the breed, even today, should flunk that question.

Bob was one of the early breeders and certainly one who contributed greatly to the breed.  His kennel name is found in foundation pedigrees and the top Register Of Merit Akitas.

Bob Cambell was Okii Yubi Akitas.  From that small kennel in Dawsonville, GA came some of the greatest legends in the breed. Bob is shown here awarding Best In Sweeps at the 1985 National Specialty to Ch. E Oka’s Big Son’s Shadow. (Ch. O’BJ Bigson of Sachmo x Ch. O’BJ Kye Kye of E oka) shown by hid breeder/owner/handler, Linda Henson.

Shad was an inbred Sachmo grandson that finished undefeated on the tough Florida circuit, handled by BJ Andrews who, reluctant to show to her dear friend Bob Campbell, had Linda fly down to show him in Sweeps.  No one criticized Bob for putting up something from so proudly reflecting the Okii Yubi line he had worked so long to establish. Bob's decision to award an "unknown" dog with an unknown owner was a popular decision with ringside and exhibitors.

Bob Campbell - Breeder/Owner/Handler 1983 - Okii Yubi Akitas

Bob Campbell was a gentleman of the old south, a high school teacher, and a superb athlete. The Akita breed lost a monument when Bob was stuck by a car while cycling close to his home.

Bob is shown here in 1983, breeder/owner/handling nine months old Ch. Vindicator No Okii Yubi to a big major from puppy class. Vindicator is shown with his sire Ch. O’BJ BigSon Of Sachmo, ROMXP,  breeder/owner/handled by Barbara "BJ" Andrews. Vindicator’s dam was Ch. Okii Yubi Southern Belle, a daughter of Ch. Yukan No Okii Yubi, ROMPX. Belle was a ¾ sister to the breed’s top producing dam Ch. Okii Yubi’s Dragon House Ko-Go, owned by the Andrews, who also made history with Ch. Okii Yubi’s Sachmo Of Makoto, who remains as the top sire of all Working breeds.

Bob linebred on the great Ch. Fukumoto’s Ashibaya Kuma, ROMPX and added his own special features of color, size, and bone. Okii Yubi produced the #1 Sire, #1 Dam, and his Okii Yubi name is behind many top producers and top winners in the last two decades of the 1990s.
