PRINTABLE PDF OTC (Over-The-Counter) medication dosage conversion

 

ASPIRIN ~ DOSAGE: 5 mg per lb every 12 hrs ~ COMMON USE: Pain relief, anti-inflammatory

BENADRYL ~ DOSAGE: 1 mg. per lb every 8 hrs ~ COMMON USE: Treat allergies, itching, etc.

DIA-GEL LIQUID ~ DOSAGE: 1 to 4 mg depending on weight ~ COMMON USE: Antacid and anti-gas

DRAMAMINE ~ DOSAGE: Up to 50 mg every 8 hrs ~ COMMON USE: Used to reduce motion (car) sickness

EPINEPHRINE usually administered intramuscular/subcutaneously for stings, bites or meds

HYDROGEN PEROXIDE 3% ~ DOSAGE: 1 ml per lb by mouth every 15 minutes ~ COMMON USE: Induces vomiting after ingestion of poison

IMODIOUM (LOPERAMIDE)  ~ DOSAGE: 1 mg pill per 20 lbs 2-3 times per day (no more than 2 days) ~ COMMON USE: For diarrhea

KAOPECTATE ~ DOSAGE: 1 ml per lb every 2 hrs ~ COMMON USE: For diarrhea

MINERAL OIL ~ DOSAGE: Up to 4 tablespoons daily ~ COMMON USE: Used to eliminate constipation

PEPCID (FAMOTIDINE) ~ DOSAGE: one 5 mg pill per 10 lbs every 12-24 hrs ~ COMMON USE: Antacid, ulcer or GI issues

TYLENOL (ACETAMINOPHEN) ~ DOSAGE: Not recommended ~ COMMON USE: Not recommended

PEPTO BISMOL ~ DOSAGE: 1 teaspoon per 10 lbs every 6-8 hrs ~ COMMON USE: Relieves vomiting or stomach gas, diarrhea

VITAMIN B ~ DOSAGE: ½ to 2 ml subcutaneously every 24 hrs ~ COMMON USE: Used as appetite stimulant

 

The following are common antibiotic medications prescribed by veterinarians.  Do not use outdated medications and ALWAYS follow the advice of your veterinarian when using antibiotics.  Antibiotics fight bacterial infections NOT viral infections.

 

AMOXICILLIN ~ DOSAGE: 5 mg per lb every 12 hrs  |  AMPICILLIN ~ DOSAGE: 10 mg per lb every 6 hrs

ERYTHROMYCIN TABLETS ~ DOSAGE: 5 mg per lb every 8 hrs | PEN BP-4; each ml includes 150,000 units each of penicillin G. Benzathine/Penicillin G. Procaine ~ DOSAGE: 1 cc per 20 lbs every 48 hrs subcutaneously

PROCAINE PENICILLIN300,000 units per ml ~ DOSAGE: 1 ml per 30 lbs subcutaneously | TETRACYCLINE ~ DOSAGE: 10 mg per lb every 8 hrs  ~

Canine = 101.5° F  ~  Feline = 101.5° F  ~  Equine = 100.5° F  ~  Elephant = 97° F  ~  Human = 98.6° F

 

Weights & Conversions

1 kilogram (kg) = 2.204 pounds (lb)  ~  1 kilogram = 1000 grams (gm)

 

1 gram = 1,000 milligrams (mg)  ~  1 milligram (mg) = 1/65 grain

 

Volumes

1 ml = 1 cc  ~  15 drops = 1 ml  ~  1 teaspoon (tsp) = 5 ml

 

1 tablespoon (tbs) = 15 ml  ~  1 ounce (oz) = 30 ml
