AKITA

CERTIFIED BREED REPRESENTATIVE

The Royal Dog Of Japan is a substantial protector endowed with devotion and dignity as described in the Akita Breed Standard and upheld by these top Akita breeders.

Maria Cogell, Certified Akita Breed Representative

The Akita is a regal dog, intelligent, loyal, and strongly territorial.  His life is oriented around its owners but it should be noted that the Akita breed is large, powerful, and dominant. The Akita breed is capable of protective behavior on behalf of its owner and under adverse or threatening circumstances, he may be aggressive and may bite.

Photo: Bear-like head, bone and substance, CH. Mariah’s Candy Stealer "Tootsie" exemplifies Akita type. At the 2019 Akita National Regional Specialty she won Breeder/Owner/handled BEST IN SWEEPSTAKES PUPPY ~ BEST BRED BY and BEST OF WINNERS BITCH.

Because of these characteristics, Akitas must be properly trained, socialized, and restrained starting as a youngster. An Akita is one of the most rewarding breeds to own but should not be casually added to the household. Unless properly trained and restrained, you are purchasing a potential liability because of the breed's naturally protective, hunting and territorial characteristics. It would be wise to make sure your homeowner’s insurance covers the addition of an Akita.

The Akita is brilliant and learn commands and tricks quickly, but they are independent thinkers, quite stubborn and tend to get bored quickly. This isn’t a breed to leave in a cage or on a chain. They can be wonderful with children but note that children must be taught respect. All interactions between children and dogs should be monitored.

Mariah Akitas is a responsible breeder who has been consistently preserving, breeding, showing and training Akitas for over 30 years. We selectively breed only a few litters per year (click link below for availability) and place our dogs into carefully chosen homes. We include health guarantees and a lifetime commitment to the owner and Akita breed. Our Akitas are sound, typey, health tested, have a lot of substance, bear-like heads, and exemplify the American Akita breed standard. With careful breeding, integrity and ethics, we have uniquely created our current “MARIAH AKITA” bloodlines from many well-known record-holding Akitas from the past.
