CRAVING ANIMAL CRUELTY

by TheDogPlace Staff

We advanced from caveman to cars but some humans still crave cruelty, especially to animals and children who cannot report the heinous acts.

Here you see cruelty to horses down in the 1920's, unable to continue on the hard cobblestone street back when horses were the only means of transportation.

Cruelty comes in many forms. Here you see cruelty to horses down, unable to continue on the hard cobblestone street back when horses were the only means of transportation.  Cars were a thing of the future. Stylish transportation depended on high-stepping horses and fancy carriages. In fact, it was known as the Carriage era but little attention was given to overloaded, overworked horses that powered everything from grocery wagons to glitzy carriages.

When it comes to heartless cruelty, most dogs fared no better. Sheepdogs and those that protected other livestock were of some value but since words were first written, people who derive satisfaction from hurting others, emotionally or physically, have wreaked havoc on silent animals.  Dogs rank first as victims of cruelty, followed by children too young or too fearful to tell anyone.

But wait! There is a bigger problem today. Perpetrators are more likely to be comforted and “helped” than shunned, legally punished, or removed from society. Perhaps that’s why animal cruelty still exists…

Wooden wagons are now replaced by station wagons but animal cruelty is still here. Acts of cruelty have flourished as humans become more self-centered and less connected to nature and the real world.

Wooden wagons of a century ago have been replaced by station wagons but animal cruelty is still here. In fact, acts of cruelty have flourished as humans become more self-centered and less connected to nature and the real world. It has been said that the attention given during counseling can be the best opportunity for patient bragging rights.

It is a complicated world we live in today. We should have evolved past acts of cruelty but animals, from farm stock to lap dogs, are still agonizingly mistreated. So are children…and here's the kick (no pun intended...) perpetrators are more likely to be coddled than condemned.  It was a simpler world a century ago.

In this decade we have flown dogs to the moon in spaceships! Now we are going to Mars. Perhaps we just need to be more “grounded” and less coddled, craven and cruel.
