CANINE AND HUMAN PARASITE PROBLEMS

If you frequently suffer from stomach cramps, diarrhea or bloating you may have a parasitic infection, i.e. Worms!

As a responsible dog owner, you know dogs get worms and that pesky problem means a trip to the veterinarian but in the case of human worm infection, it can be a big deal! Starting with how did this happen? Who to go to, and how to preserve a human a stool sample?

Frequent stomach pain can mean digestion problems from ulcers to worms. Humans can get worms just like other animals. First a little information on human “worms” so you can make a decision on testing, treatment and if you need a doctor.

Research reveals approximately 25% of the world's population have “intestinal parasitic worms”. Human worm infections can be debilitating and dangerous if not treated but unlike your veterinarian, medical doctors rarely ask for a stool sample. Don’t get flummoxed! Your family doctor can prescribe a human wormer and shouldn’t make a big deal $$$ out of it.

In fairness to Doctors, just as in animals, there are different types of human worms and medical sources say that human worms are hard to diagnose. I don’t know why it would be any different in humans but one source states “Human parasitic infections can be difficult to diagnose because they often cause nonspecific symptoms that can be attributed to a variety of other illnesses.

Another human health site makes even less sense but will surely be costly. ”Many parasites are not easily detected by standard laboratory tests. As a result, diagnosis often relies on a combination of clinical suspicion and specialized testing.

Sounds like a sales-pitch but may be medically correct so we include it FYI.

The bigger problem may be this: Dr. Peter McCullough says humans can be infected and not know it. He explains “There are many different types of parasitic diseases, and the symptoms can vary depending on the type of parasite involved. Some common symptoms include abdominal pain, diarrhea, fatigue, and weight loss.

Humans can get infected by tapewormd from under-cooked meat or even from direct contact with an infected animal or person.

Are animal owners more prone to “parasite infections”? Probably. Are human tapeworms the same as what animals have? Sort’a. Human tapeworms are generally different than those animals get, plus we cook most of our food. But do we wash fresh vegetables enough? You’re thinking about the current craze on washing veggies but it really isn’t funny… only on TV.

That said, we are more likely to become infected if we don’t thoroughly cook meat. If you like your steak really rare, note that human tapeworms include Taenia saginata (beef tapeworm), Taenia solium (pork tapeworm) and Taenia asiatica (Asian tapeworm) yes, humans can get infected from under-cooked meat.

We are, after all, human. Our physiology is not that different than other mammals but our instincts are often repressed. We would never think of eating grass to help get rid of intestinal parasites!
