Russell Terrier Personality!

Smaller, shorter, and calmer than the Jack Russell or Parson Russell Terrier, the Russell Terrier has BIG personality!

Russell Terrier Temperament

The Russell Terrier is a small feisty terrier with the strong instinct for hunting.

The Russell is playful with a vast amount of energy. They require early socialization with other canines and people to become a well rounded member of the family. Russells are very devoted and loving to their families. Good with children if raised with love and respect.

Training must be firm, but loving. Russell Terriers may be socialized to stock, but certain situations may arise when instinct overrides training. First and foremost they are working earth terriers used for vermin control.

The intensity with which the Russell Terrier tackles life is one of the breed's most endearing traits. While not a comical breed, they keep owners laughing.  The Russell is highly intelligent so perhaps they plan it that way... Russells thrive most in a family with an active lifestyle where they can explore the great outdoors.

The breed is not for everyone. However, most Russell Terrier enthusiasts make a life long commitment to the breed.
