Certified Russell Terrier Breed Representative: Pamela P. Simmons presents "Breeze" Best Bred-By Russell Terrier at 2011 AKC Invitational. The Russell Terrier is a highly devoted companion breed, wishing to be at your side and in your lap at all times. Russells are exceptionally intelligent and trainable. Being highly motivated, they require lots of exercise and are most suitable for active adults and older children. The Russell is a small package, easily transported and willing and able to travel with you at all times. The Russell Terrier comes in smooth, broken and rough coats and is either black and white, tan and white or tri-colored, weighing approximately 8-10 pounds. Grooming even on the rough coats is minimal, and regular brushing coats will keep the coat looking wonderful.

Russell Terrier UKC Grand Champion Elk Creek Quick descends directly from the famous Rigden's Hi'Hills English Imports. The Russell Terrier originated in England dating back to the 1800's. It was utilized in the Sport of Fox Hunting in the country of origin. As early as 1911 the Russell made its way to the US with the Fox Hounds where it was highly prized. The fox settes were much smaller in the US as compared to the larger settes in England. This created a demand for small 10" to 12" Russell for those in pursuit of the fox. The breed is active, intelligent, inquisitive, and extremely loyal. Best suited for those with an active life style.

Elk Creek Russells Established in 1985 from the imports AKC Judges Jerry and Elaine Rigden acquired on buying trips to England. The Hi-Hill's bloodlines represent some of the oldest Russell Terrier lines. In 1995 I established ARTC, Inc. (American Russell Terrier Club), the first breed registry in the US to separate the Parson from the Russell Terrier in blood and type. I've served the breed for 17 years as ARTC President and Founder, ushering the breed into the UKC and AKC. As of July of 2012 the Russell moves forward into AKC as a fully recognized breed. UKC Gr. Ch. UWP Frayed Knot Spike (AKC) CM, CD, JE, CAT, CGC. AKC's first Russell Terrier to be awarded the Miscellaneous Certificate of Merit. UKC #1 Russell Terrier in 2007.The Russell Terrier is above all things a happy tractable terrier with a merry disposition, small stature and hardy constitution. He is recognizable for his small, rectangular silhouette, not being more than 12 inches tall. They are predominately white with black, tan or tricolor markings and can have any one of three coats; smooth, broken or rough. They are the most adaptable of dogs, living in city with the elderly or children and in the country with farm animals and who ever else may be included in the household - with the exception of small rodents and other vermin.

Frayed Knot Farms I have been involved in the sport of dogs since the fifth grade. While in England, I met my first Russell Terriers and in 1980 acquired my first Russell - Badger was deported for biting a minor member of royalty. I continued to show other breeds as the Russell's weren't recognized then and didn't conform to the JRTCA standard. Website: http://frayedknotfarm.com or call: 479-634-3436
