Presenters are:
Debbie
Martin, Bayou Kennels has been in the sport for 25 years.
She grew up with dogs as her family did Obedience and had herding and
hunting dogs...and Chihuahuas.
She has raised and shown Chihuahuas for over 15 years and has bred several
Specialty winning and Group placing Chihuahuas, but says she is “usually
seen showing the breed for others as I’m also a Professional Handler.“
Debbie does basic obedience with the breed as well as therapy dog
training. She works a great deal
with what are called "problem" dogs, training them for the show ring
or if unsuited for the ring, she fits them to a new life with a loving family.
Since 1962 Bill and Barbara
Andrews have bred over 200 AKC
Champions in four breeds, over half of which have been BIS, Group, Specialty
winners or Register Of Merit Producers including Chihuahuas. "BJ"
judges AKC non-regular classes and Open-Level shows in the U.K. but breeding,
writing, and educational projects take precedence.
Having served on the board of several Breed clubs, including JEC Chair
for the Akita Club Of America, “BJ” listens carefully to the judging
community, has done Hands-On Training Matches for the SCJA, and enjoys doing
seminars and workshops.
The
Chihuahua is an ancient type as evidenced by this museum artifact.
The Incas and other early civilizations of the American Southwest,
Central and South America left evidence of their high regard for this little
dog. Rattles were made of clay,
metal, or strings of large seeds. This Moche rattle has a dog's head at one
end. The handle of the rattle is in the shape of a man's head.
