CERTIFIED MASTIFF BREED AUTHORITIES
The Mastiff is courageous, quiet, gentle with children and other pets, an impressive estate dog but most content when close to his family.
Teresa McMahan, Certified Mastiff Breed Representative
The Mastiff is a giant breed dog, an excellent family pet if bred and raised properly. Due to their size, it is extremely important that training and socialization begin at an early age. Puppy classes that teach basic obedience, bite inhibition and good manners are an absolute necessity. Since the Mastiff is an instinctive guardian breed, it is important that they are bonded with their family by being indoor dogs. They do require daily outside exercise but are otherwise very sedentary dogs. The most difficult part of living with the Mastiff is that they shed (all dogs do) and they do drool (especially after eating and a drink of water), but having the love, companionship and protection of these gentle giants is well worth the effort.
