German Shepherd / Alsatian Joke Of The Day
received from Fred Lanting
Here's a cartoon not everybody will understand. Enjoy! (With a dash of alum or bitter salts)
--- for those who don't know the story, Alsace is a region that alternated often between French and German control. Early in the spread of the German Shepherd Dog breed and its popularity, there was antipathy in Great Britain because of WW-1, so the Brits called the GSD by a non-Germanic name. Similarly, during WW-2, many USA communities with German-descent populations changed their town or organization names. But in the USA, the "Alsatian" name never really caught on except with a few Anglophiles and immigrants from the Br. Isles.
Ol' Fred, who remembers the 1940s.
