TheDogPlace - Home > Library >> BAD MEDICINE

This project was launched in 2000 when Veterinary Medicine became "big business" instead of pet care - when instead of caring practitioners vets became corporate managers, hiding behind pet insurance and malpractice cover-up.  Dispensing deadly drugs, withholding prescription inserts, and getting away with sloppy surgery.  This is not an easy pill to swallow.  No pun intended.  Protect your pets - and yourself.  No one else will do it for you.  Over 60,000 people visit here every month and while we do get "Results" this Project will never be complete.  If you have documented information, share it here
Editor’s Note: This thought-provoking post was sent to us with a  cross post request.  In view of other information coming to light about unsafe or use-with-caution products, the harassment of  those who report problems has raised serious questions.  As if Sage's family hadn't suffered enough, following the autopsy report, Mr. Eddy says they received  threatening phone calls.

When you carefully read this debunking email, and having verified the Eddy's report, we believe this to be a classic example of damage control.

Read Prescription Inserts.to gain a better understanding of how the pharmaceutical industry works. In 2006 we learned of drug company harassment.  A doctor working in FDA safety regulatory dept. was the object of Ft. Dodge retaliation regarding RECALLED Proheart6 heartworm preventative.

Pfizer has been generous in paying for vet care and autopsies.  Many vets share the opinion of Mike Murray, that people are over reacting, i.e. if a drug company passed out enough sugar pills, the odds are that a diabetic would swallow some and go into a coma.  The point of this Project is that a diabetic should be told it is a sugar pill…

There is nothing to fear except ignorance.  TDP’s purpose is to enlighten and inform.  Prescriptions save thousands of lives daily.  Use with full knowledge and therefore, with confidence.

DRUG COMPANY THREATS?

----- Original Message -----

From: "Show Dog Ringmaster"  Subject: [SDForum] FW: Revolution (Long)

> Cross-posted: Subject: Problem with Revolution--Hope this is ok to post.

>>Folks, We need your help. Please post this message to every possible list, pet owners lists, groomers lists boards etc., anywhere you have seen the Rumor posted about "Revolution" killing a dog.

>>>I have personally talked with the girl who published the original message concerning the death of her dog and her belief that revolution killed her dog.  I have also been informed of several other very real possibilities of what could have really killed her dog. This lady is understandably, upset and very worried that she may have triggered something far bigger than she ever expected.  I believe this could get as big or bigger than the Frebreeze rumors from last year.  Please help us help her stop the rumor and hopefully help prevent this girl from suffering any more grief than she already has.

>>>>I don't think she had any idea of the power of the Internet when she posted that message. I am also afraid that because of what happened with Frebreeze last year that this one will end with people and groups (Especially, E-mail groups) getting sued.  I seem to remember reading something last year where the FBI, FTC and the justice department were discussing and making plans for ways to stop this particular type of "screaming 'fire!' in a full Theater" on the Internet.  Eventually, someone will be made an example of just like the hackers that sent out some of the bad viruses last year.  Let's help this girl before it is too late. Let's stop this one before it makes this girl a legal target....  "Bull's Eye".

>>> We must demonstrate that counter rumors can be successful on the Internet.  Rumors like this spread like wildfire and we have to start a "BackBurn" to catch this one.  If a rumor can start on the Internet, it can also be stopped by the Internet (or at least the impact reduced. )

> >> We have identified (Thanks to a Member on this Network) a very real possibility as to what may have happened to this girl's dog. It is enough to make you wonder what really happened and hopefully enough to stop this scare message from moving so fast and maybe enough to make sure everyone knows that there are other, more likely reasons for the death. And hopefully everyone will wait until the autopsy comes out rather than continue to put him or herself at legal risk of being sued.

>>  But most important, once someone has read this information, if they still help perpetuate this Internet "Wildfire Rumor", they deserve to be sued by the parties injured by their continuing to spread the damaging rumor. (BTW, E-mail is very easy to track through).

>>>Here is what we have found:

There is a apparently little known form of Toxic shock that follows the same symptoms as what happened to this girl's dog ...  BUT is apparently hard to identify and it's symptoms are so much like a "rat poison" that it very likely gets lost.   I'm posting an excerpt from what I received so everyone can read it for themselves. It is identical:

> § >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Beginning of paste>>>>>>

A while back on PSG someone posted this information concerning a disease that had been identified similar to the diseases the greyhounds were troubled with on the race tracks in Florida last year. There is a vet at Kansas State doing research. But first read this: >> "My dog was deathly ill in just a matter of hours, found laying down, on her side, too weak to move, some rigidity with mild convulsions.  Some vomiting, and rapid uncontrolled fine muscle twitching. This progressed into a deep non productive cough typical of pulmonary edema. Then followed spontaneous hemorrhaging, coughing up blood, bleeding from the nose, severe bruising of the skin, bloody diarrhea. The whole scenario looked like a poisoning, like rat poison."

>> Sound familiar???? I thought so too...I had received the (Revolution) post at my home address 5 times since Saturday and the more I saw it the more familiar it became...and I knew right where to look!!! I had copied off a post from several months ago from the VET at K State who is doing research on TOXIC SHOCK SYNDROME in dogs called Streptococcol Toxic Shock!! The above is NOT from the girls Revolution) post...but directly from an information post put out by the very office of the Vet at K state who is doing the research!!!! The vet is Dr Brad Fenwick who is a pathobiologist..  A TISSUE sample is required to confirm a diagnosis. Dr Fenwick is gathering information, and is the leading authority on this disease and its treatment and cure!! If caught in time a dog can be saved, but it is imperative that the dog receive the proper treatment in a matter of 1 or 2 hours or it will surly die.

>>  Dr Fenwicks email is fenwick@vet.ksu.edu or phone at   785-532-4412

So you see the gal with the fast fingers so quick to lay blame on a product, may very well have cost her dog its life .ASSUMING that the product was at fault when instead she could have searched farther and may have discovered the info about this disease. It may not  have been toxic shock...but only Dr Fenwick has the key at this time. If there really was an autopsy she is going to be very upset if she finds out it was toxic shock and (if she finds out) she has wrongly blamed loud and long the manufacturer of the product in question.

> § >>>>>>>>>>>>>End of Paste>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

As you spread this Message, to assure that it is read with credibility, include the entire message.  In closing, if you have ever made a mistake then you know how scared and bad this girl is feeling right now. She was so scared that I could hear the tears welling up.  So please help stop this rumor concerning "Revolution".
