Butter Versus Margarine

Butter DishDO YOU KNOW...the difference between margarine and butter?
Read to the last paragraph - and don't get sick.
Then read more info from Dr. David G. Williams, June 2005

  • Both have the same amount of calories.
  • Butter is slightly higher in saturated fats at 8 grams compared to 5 grams.
  • Eating margarine can increase heart disease in women by 53% over eating the same amount of butter, according to a recent Harvard Medical Study.
  • Eating butter increases the absorption of many other nutrients in other foods.
  • Butter has many nutritional benefits where margarine has a few only because they are added!
  • Butter tastes much better than margarine and it can enhance the flavors of other foods.
  • Butter has been around for centuries where margarine has been around for less than 100 years.

  • And now, for Margarine...
  • Very high in trans fatty acids...
  • Triple risk of coronary heart disease..
  • Increases total cholesterol and LDL (this is the bad cholesterol)
  • Lowers HDL cholesterol, (the good cholesterol) ...
  • Tub of ButterIncreases the risk of cancers by up to five fold...
  • Lowers quality of breast milk...
  • Decreases immune response...
  • Decreases insulin response.
  • And here is the most disturbing fact....
  • Margarine is but ONE MOLECULE away from being PLASTIC...

This fact alone was enough to have me avoiding margarine for life and anything else that is hydrogenated (this means hydrogen is added, changing the molecular structure of the substance).

YOU can try this yourself: purchase a tub of margarine and leave it in your garage or shaded area. Within a couple of days you will note a couple of things: no flies, not even those pesky fruit flies will go near it (that should tell you something) ... it does not rot or smell differently.. because it has no nutritional value, nothing will grow on it...even those teeny weeny microorganisms will not a find a home to grow. Why? Because it is nearly plastic. Would you melt your Tupperware and spread that on your toast?
Share This With Your Friends.....(Butter them up!)

Now comes excerpts from Alternatives, by nationally famous Dr. David G. Williams.
"A lack of vitamin D is associate with increased rates of multiple sclerosis, weak bone structure, increased bone fractures (particularly of the hip and spine."  Think this only applies to humans?  Think again.  And think about the increasing rate of bone and joint problems in the canine.  "It is now estimated that one-third of the women.... over 80 have a hip fracture during their lives, and 50,000 die each year as a result."

Dr. Williams goes on to discuss butter's "amazing healing and protective properties" as demonstrated long ago by a dentist, Dr. Weston Price who studied the relationship between traditional diets of indigenous societies who still ate natural food, not contaminated with refined sugars, canned foods (filled with chemicals) pasteurized (emphasis on pasteurized) dairy products, and denatured or rancid fats or oils.  Like the stuff we all eat today and the stuff in our dog food.  He discovered a catalyst he referred to as "Activator X" which helped to increase absorption and utilization of fat-soluble vitamins.  It appeared most abundant in fresh eggs, organ meats, cod liver oil (how many are old enough to remember being made to take that stuff every day?) and cow's butter made during the spring and fall when they grazed on new grass.

As more studies have been done, a new high-quality product called butter oil has re-emerged.  One is called X-Factor Gold if you want to look online.  Personally, we mix organic butter with that "Smart Balance" spread that has no hydrogenated oils or trans-fatty acids.  Let both soften a little and then using a table knife, fold in a stick of butter split between two tubs of Smart Balance.  Best of both worlds!

But do remember that high heat kills the active factors in the butter, "X" or otherwise.  And if you want to give your dog (or yourself) the benefits of whole milk, find a dairy farm that doesn't add hormones to the feed, that grazes their cows every day, and tell them you have a litter of "big breed" puppies and mom is sick and..... you need a gallon or two of milk.  You won't believe the difference in taste!  Or how much less it takes to satisfy hunger.

And if you want more info on the serious effects on bones, growth rate in puppies, hormonal imbalances, etc. an upcoming article will "enlighten" you.  I don't have the link right now but do an online search for "sunlight canine health TheDogPlace" and it will find the article for you.  Editor.
