Show ring performances are stressful and demanding. A professional handler told me that they "rehearse" their clothing prior to attending a show. They put the clothes on and test movement, bending, stretching, etc. This is a lesson that should be learned early in your dog show handling career. My own experience with embarrassing events in a show results directly from failing to "rehearse"! On route to our breed National show, we entered our dogs in a small local show. The show was larger than normal, due to the possibility of "warming up" for the Nationals.
When my class was called I made the first run around the ring. As I came to a stop, a funny tickling feeling started on my ankles. Knowing that this could only be one thing, I glanced down, horrified, and sure enough, there clumped on my feet is a pretty, white, lacy slip. A million solutions zipped through my brain, but I knew only one would work. I stepped out of the slip, catching it on one toe, flipped it up, caught it, and threw it out of the ring. Then I resumed stacking the dog.
Upon completion of the judging, I found out that there were 2 video cameras running and they both caught the whole thing! There was a breed club party that night, so anyone who missed the event, got to see the tape.
A year later, ringside, I'll have someone bring me a stapler, or duct tape. They ask sweetly if I'm going to "slip up" today?
We can all see this happening and for sharing her most embarrassing moment, Cindy Hicks of Arizona receives a cash prize of $25.00 Can you top this one?
